Daikin Air-conditioning India, a branch of Japan’s Daikin Industries, recently inaugurated its cutting-edge manufacturing plant located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Encompassing a sprawling area of 75.5 acres, this newly established site focuses on spearheading eco-conscious air conditioning solutions destined for varied international markets. This strategic move aligns with the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, capitalising on India’s manufacturing capabilities to meet the rising global requirements. With a prospective workforce of about 3,000, the facility has its sights set on serving regions like West Africa, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, the Middle East, South America, and East Africa.

As a fully-owned subsidiary of Japan’s Daikin Industries Ltd, the company poured in an investment of Rs 1,000 crore to establish the integrated air-conditioning and compressor manufacturing unit. Kanwaljeet Jawa, as Daikin India’s Chairman & Managing Director, stressed the importance of the new Sri City facility, affirming its pivotal role in bolstering their production capacities. Jawa noted that this establishment positions them as leaders in delivering eco-friendly HVAC solutions in the region.

Masanori Togawa, Daikin Industries’ President & CEO, emphasised the company’s worldwide growth and emphasised India’s central role in expanding Daikin’s manufacturing reach. “We have about 100 production units globally and a customer base in over 170 countries but India holds a special significance. As we expand our manufacturing footprint in India, we re-emphasise the importance of India in Daikin’s global vision”, said Togawa.

This establishment signifies Daikin’s significant financial ventures in India, totaling Rs 2,800 crores. It mirrors the company’s dedication to meeting the surging requirement for air conditioning goods on a local and global scale while emphasising eco-conscious solutions. Boasting an annual capacity to produce 1.5 million room air conditioners and 3 million compressors, this site represents Daikin’s third manufacturing unit in India, unequivocally showcasing their allegiance to India’s production-linked incentive (PLI) initiative for air conditioners.
