The highly awaited mixed-reality headset from Apple, known as the Vision Pro and previously showcased as the spatial computer, has encountered a shift in its release schedule. Initially targeted for a January launch, the headset’s introduction is now anticipated to take place roughly in March, signalling the continuation of development efforts in progress.

Mark Gurman, in his analysis within Bloomberg’s ‘Power On’ newsletter, indicated Apple’s software teams were targeting a January launch for the Vision Pro. This notion gains credibility from the latest visionOS beta version, incorporating product onboarding videos and materials usually reserved for the latter stages of the software development cycle. Moreover, the iOS 17.2 beta version introduces complementary functionalities tailored for Vision Pro, including the AirPlay Receiver and spatial video capture specifically for iPhone 15 Pro models.

As the testing phase draws to a close, obstacles persist in deciding on the hardware’s distribution approach. The company appears to be in the midst of finalising these particulars, even with the release date on the horizon.

Apple’s confirmation arrived regarding Vision Pro’s impending launch in the United States early next year, followed by anticipated international availability in 2024. Embracing an exclusive sales approach, Apple will restrict its availability solely to its website or designated Apple retail stores, accessible by appointment only. This strategic decision underscores Apple’s meticulous intent to orchestrate a precisely curated rollout, bypassing third-party retailers in the process.

With a price tag of $3,499, the Vision Pro headset reflects Apple’s deliberate strategy to establish the device as a top-tier product in the mixed-reality landscape, specifically catering to the high-end sector of the market.
