Isha Ambani, the daughter of Indian business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, is reportedly considering the acquisition of a popular international beauty brand. This move is part of Reliance Retail’s strategy to strengthen its position in the beauty market and compete with rivals like Nykaa and Shoppers Stop.

Sources indicate that Reliance Retail is currently in discussions with Italian beauty brand Kiko Milano regarding the potential acquisition of its operations in India. Kiko Milano, known for its premium offerings, caters to the premium end of the beauty and personal care market. The talks are focused on acquiring the 51:49 India joint venture between Italy’s Percassi Group and New Delhi-based DLF Brands, which operates several Kiko Milano stores across major cities in India.

Reliance Retail has already made significant strides in this sector with the acquisition of the Sephora beauty business in November last year. This acquisition, worth Rs 216 crore, allowed Reliance Retail to enter the mid-to-premium segment of the beauty market.

Reliance Retail’s aims to capitalise on the expanding beauty and personal care market in India, which is driven by increasing consumer awareness and disposable income. With the addition of a renowned international brand, Reliance Retail can further enhance its presence in the premium segment of the beauty market.

RTM Watch’s Take

The potential acquisition of an international beauty brand by Isha Ambani and Reliance Retail signifies their commitment to expanding their presence in the beauty market. By adding a popular international brand to their portfolio, Reliance Retail can attract a wider customer base and compete more effectively with established players in the industry. This move also reflects Isha Ambani’s growing influence as a businesswoman and her vision for Reliance Retail’s future growth.
